What does cancer care nursing excellence mean to you?

To Art Lochead, cancer patient, it means having more than a nursing contact at the hospital. It’s about having a nurse that makes him feel like he’s number one.

On September 18, 2012, de Souza Institute launched a video entitled “The Patient Experience.” It comes on the wake of the five year anniversary of the passing Anna Maria de Souza, the organization’s namesake. de Souza Institute is celebrating Anna Maria’s commitment to nursing excellence by having several cancer patients and survivors share their stories.

Art’s story involves Sue Stein, a nurse navigator with the South West Regional Cancer Program who cared for Art during his cancer journey. “Sue is more than just a contact in the hospital,” says Art. “She seems to be interested in me.”
